Vijay Deverakonda revealed to the press that he is excited about the possibility of joining the famous Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU). The actor was in Chennai to promote Liger, along with his co-star, Ananya Panday. Deverakonda stated that he enjoys Pa Ranjith, Vetrimaaran and Lokesh Kanagaraj films, adding he would work with them someday.

On whether he would like to join the Lokesh Cinematic Universe, the Arjun Reddy actor stated that he is looking forward to it. "I'm waiting for a call from Lokesh. I feel it will happen!"

Both of Kanagaraj's latest releases, Vikram (featuring Kamal Haasan) and Kaithi (featuring Karthi), belonged to the LCU, which aims to connect the director's films, like Hollywood superhero movies.

Liger, on the other hand, marks Vijay Deverakonda’s debut in Hindi cinema. The trailer depicts Vijay's character's transformation from a tea seller in Mumbai to a lion-tiger crossbreed training to compete in mixed martial arts championships. The images show him and his mother, played by Ramya Krishna, wearing their emotions on their sleeves. Vijay's character tends to stutter and must compete both on and off the field. The trailer bears all the hallmarks of a Puri Jagannadh film laced with masala elements.

This project was announced before the COVID-19 pandemic set in and shooting was on pause during the lockdown. Vijay on social media said, “Someone with my background shouldn’t have reached anywhere near here, according to conventions and set norms. But with sheer madness, passion and hard work, here we are! For everyone like me, it’s okay to dream big, believe and make it happen.”

Liger is set to be released on August 25. The sports action drama, co-produced by Karan Johar and Charmme Kaur, features cinematographer Vishnu Sarma, stunt director Kecha from Thailand, and stars Ronit Roy, Makarand Deshpande, and Getup Srinu. Liger will also be released in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam.
