The latest track, The Punjaabban Song from Varun Dhawan-Kiara Advani’s film, Jug Jugg Jeeyo, which has taken the internet by storm, now has Liger actors Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday ‘hooked’ too. The two young celebrities who will appear in another Dharma Productions film, Liger, were captured on camera dancing to the new single.
The two actors posted the video dancing to the song on Instagram, and they can be seen matching up to each other’s hook step in flawless synchronisation. "Hooked to this step and the mood of this song!," Ananya expressed in a note on the post. To the team and everybody, Jug Jugg Jeeyo, as they say.
Vijay Deverakonda looks handsome in a black and white suit in the fun video, while Ananya Panday is styled in a yellow bodysuit and purple heels. Through Instagram stories, Ananya Panday reposted the video, writing, "From team Liger to the Jug Jugg Jeeyo fam," with a heart emoji.
The Punjaabban Song hit the headlines even before it was released, when its creator, Pakistani singer-politician Abrar-Ul Haq, accused producer-filmmaker Karan Johar of plagiarism. He added in a tweet, "I have not sold my song ‘Nach Punjaban’ to any Indian movie and reserve the right to go to court to claim damages. Producers like Karan Johar should not copy songs. This is my 6th song being copied which will not be allowed at all."
T-Series, on the other hand, quickly issued a statement denying the singer's claims. The official account of T-Series tweeted: "We have legally acquired the rights to adapt the song, Nach Punjaban from the album Nach Punjaban released on iTunes on January 1, 2002, and is also available on Lollywood Classics' YouTube channel, owned and operated by Moviebox Records Label, for the film Jug Jugg Jeeyo produced by Dharma Productions,"
Moviebox Birmingham Limited, to whom the music was leased at the time T-Series acquired the rights, backed this up as well. It was stated, "Nach Panjaban has been officially licensed for it to be included in the film Jug Jugg Jeeyo by T-Series. Karan Johar and Dharma Movies have the legal rights to use this song in their film and the tweet by Abrar-Ul-Haq earlier today is defamatory and completely unacceptable," the company's tweet said.
Abrar-Ul Haq is recognised for "original music and lyrics" in the song released on Sunday. "It's time to gather the family together and groove to this ultimate track," producer Karan Johar remarked while sharing the trailer to the song.
On June 24, Jug Jugg Jeeyo will be released in theatres. Apart from Varun Dhawan and Kiara Advani, the film also features Anil Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor, Maniesh Paul, and Prajakta Koli. It is helmed by Raj Mehta.
Meanwhile, Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday’s film Liger also features Mike Tyson, Ronit Roy, and Ramya Krishna. The film will be released on August 25.
