Vijay Deverakonda’s debut Bollywood film Liger has finally released in theatres. The movie’s initial buzz was fairly good but it has dropped massively. Nonetheless, the film is expected to mint more than Rs. 20 crores gross on day 1 (all languages).
Liger, which is originally a Telugu release, is likely to mint Rs. 15 crores gross in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on day 1, a report on Ormax Media suggests. The movie has released in various languages but has a strong base in Hyderabad and Telangana as a whole. Thus, if the film works, it would work best there.
Apart from Rs. 15 crores, Liger could earn an additional Rs. 7.7 crores across India. This means that the movie could end up minting Rs. 22.2 crores domestic gross.
Early reviews of the movie have not been too good. Thus, the film might suffer from word-of-mouth.
Although the predictions were above Rs. 20 crores, the current trend might not approve. The film might end up earning only Rs. 5 crores on the opening day, much like Prabhas-Pooja Hegde’s RadheShyam.
The opening day would have been important for Vijay, especially since it is his grand debut in Bollywood. However, unless by some magic the seats start filling up after evening, Liger is going to suffer a fate like most other Hindi movies of current times.
The Puri Jagannadh directorial might find it difficult to cope over the weekend given the poor word-of-mouth. The day’s end can only reveal what luck this film has in store.
Produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, Liger stars Ananya Panday as the female lead. The movie also features Mike Tyson.
