Charmme Kaur, who has produced Vijay Deverakonda-Ananya Panday’s Liger, revealed that the makers of the film were extremely confident that the movie is a theatrical release. She explained why they waited for so long to release. In fact, Charmme even went ahead and shared that the makers decided to make way for RRR and Pushpa’s release before Liger.

The producer told Free Press Journal, “It was our responsibility to let other major films, such as RRR and Pushpa: The Rise, come out first.” She pointed out how Liger was in the works since 2019-2020 but the team ‘had to hold back’ for three years.

“We held back from coming to theatres for three years as we were extremely confident that Liger was a theatrical release irrespective of the first and second lockdowns, third wave, or theatres opening to 50 percent occupancy,” she shared.

Charmme also expressed concern about where Bollywood is heading. She feels that while people need to be really intrigued to come to theatres, the situation is ‘scary and depressing.’

The producer recalls how three Telugu films – Karthikeya 2, Bimbisara and Sita Ramam – have been accepted in the Hindi belt before Liger’s release. Through the example, she also figured that people in the South aren’t crazy for films like before.

Liger was produced and distributed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions in the Hindi belt. The film has been bashed by critics and at the Box Office.

The movie minted merely Rs. 4.50 crores net in Hindi on Friday. The big-buget, pan-Indian film released in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam apart from Hindi.
