Line of Duty, the British police procedural that ran for six seasons between 2012 and 2021 and was one of the most popular television dramas, is set to return for a seventh season, 5 years after the last. Created by Jed Mercurio, the show became BBC’s highest rated series, concluding in 2021, with a total 36 episode run.

Starring Adrian Dunbar, Martin Compston and Vicky McClure as regulars and featuring guest stars like Thandie Newton, Stephen Graham, Lennie James, among others, the show centred on the Anticorruption unit AC 12 of London’s Metropolitan police force, tasked with rooting out ‘bent coppers’.

What is in store in Line of Duty Season 7?

Although AC 12 was disbanded by the end of the series, turns out that Adrian’s Ted Hastings, Martin’s Steve Arnott and Vicky’s Kate Fleming are still on anticorruption assessment duty. And they are set to return with a seventh season of 6 episodes. Rebranded the Inspectorate of Police Standards, the job profile remains the same for the trio, as they deal with one of their most sensitive cases to date. A successful senior officer in the organised crime unit is suspected to be a sexual predator. Is he really abusing his position of trust or is the allegation and investigation meant to throw him off a case? That’s what Hastings and his motley gang have to find out.

Mercurio remains at the helm of affairs of Line of Duty, with production expected to begin in early 2026 in Belfast. Further details on returning and new cast members are expected to be revealed closer to actual production. Since the end of Line of Duty, Martin has been a part of shows like Vigil , The Rig and Fear, while Vicky has led shows like Alex Rider, Without Sin and Trigger Point. Line of Duty is currently not available to stream in India, but it was on Netflix earlier. Considering its popularity, once Season 7 premieres, it will, no doubt, emerge on a platform again.
