Zelda Williams, daughter of the late actor Robin Williams, is all set to make her feature directorial debut with Lisa Frankenstein, a dark and raunchy comedy that is also a gothic love story. Armed with a screenplay by Jennifer’s Body fame Diablo Cody as well as a solid cast, Lisa Frankenstein promises to rock Valentine’s week this year, by releasing on February 9, 2024.

Focus Features dropped the two clips to offer a sneak peek into the much awaited ‘coming of rage’ story featuring zombies and murder, as well as an inter-’species’ romance. The first teaser trailer dropped on October 26, 2023, while the official trailer was recently dropped on January 4, 2024.

The official trailer envelopes the plot synopsis offered and more, revealing tit bits about the characters of Kathryn Newton as Lisa, Cole Sprouse as her crush cum monster, and Carla Gugino in an unnamed but antagonistic character.

The trailer traces the love story of gothic, high school oddball, Lisa, and her necrophiliac crush on a handsome, Victorian teen, next to whose attractive albeit eroded stone bust she reads at the cemetery, while maintaining his grave. Her fictional crush becomes real when a series of crazy events and a huge burst of green lightening reanimates his weathered and battered corpse.

Instead of batting an eye, Lisa simply accepts her crush for who he is, except for the fact that his body parts need to be upgraded, as even his tears stink worse than a dead racoon in a boys’ football changing room. The eccentric couple then embark on a murderous spree, killing only ‘bad people’ and using her personal tanning bed to give her crush a full-body makeover.

Now, normally people fear incarceration or the electric chair, but not Lisa, as the trailer reveals. She has her priorities sorted, for she would prefer either of them to dying a virgin. Full of dark and dry humor, a sweet albeit creepy romance that can turn the Valentine’s celebration Halloween, Lisa Frankenstein is a film that should not be missed.
