Pranayam

Mohanlal delivered one of the finest yet most underrated performances of his illustrious career in Pranayam, the Blessy directorial which hit the theatres in 2011. The movie, which also stars veteran Bollywood actor Anupam Kher and Jayaprada in the lead roles, is not really remembered while discussing the best films of director Blessy and the Malayalam superstar.

Munnariyippu

Director: Venu

Cast: Mammootty, Aparna Gopinath, Nedumudi Venu, Joy Mathew, Renji Panicker, Prithviraj Sukumaran

Mammootty has always been open to experiments and has never shied away from playing grey-shaded characters. The megastar teamed up with cinematographer-director Venu for the 2014-released psychological thriller Munnariyippu. The veteran actor delivered a spectacular performance in the role of CK Raghavan, who is convicted of double homicide in this highly underrated movie, which is not often discussed by cine-goers.

Solo

Director: Bejoy Nambiar

Cast: Dulquer Salmaan, Dhansika, Sruthi Hariharan, Neha Sharma, Arthi Venkatesh

Dulquer Salmaan joined hands with filmmaker Bejoy Nambiar for the anthology movie Solo. The actor played four characters – Shiva, Shekhar, Rudra, and Trilok - which are inspired by the four phases of Lord Shiva, in this experimental film. Even though Solo was released with massive pre-release hype, it did not receive the love it truly deserved. This anthology movie is an underrated creation, that was way ahead of its time.

Chirakodinja Kinavukal

Cast: Kunchacko Boban, Sreenivasan, Rima Kallingal, Joy Mathew, Manoj K Jayan

The first-ever spoof film of Malayalam cinema, Chirakodinja Kinavukal, narrates the famous story of the ‘Tailor and Sumathi’ narrated by Sreenivasan’s character Ambujakshan, in Azhakiya Raavanan. Kunchacko Boban appeared in a triple role in this truly underrated film, which won the hearts of cinema-goers by celebrating all the cliches in the film industry.

Mayilpeelikkavu

Director: Anil-Babu

Cast: Kunchacko Boban, Jomol, Thilakan, Jagathy Sreekumar, Narendra Prasad

The mystery thriller film helmed by Anil-Babu duo, is based on the concepts of reincarnation and revenge. Kunchacko Boban and Jomol, the lead pair appeared in double roles in the film, which features Thilakan as the lead antagonist. Mayilpeelikkavu is indeed an enjoyable film that never got its due from the audiences.
