Bottle Radha
Bottle Radha

Bottle Radha is a social drama featuring Guru Somasundaram, Sanchana Natarajan, John Vijay, Lollu Sabha Maaran and others. Directed by Dhinakaran Sivalingam in his debut, the film is about a severely alcohol-addicted mason, Radha Mani, who comes from a financially weak background. As his wife and two children grapple with his alcoholism, Radha is sent to a rehabilitation centre without his knowledge and must conform to the strict regulations to get away from his addiction. Bottle Radha explores the lives of inmates at a rehabilitation centre and what substance abuse can do to a family.

Kaadhal Enbathu Podhu Udamai

Kaadhal Enbadhu Podhu Udamai directed by Jayaprakash Radhakrishnan, is a coming-of-age, queer love story featuring Vineeth, Rohini, Lijomol Jose, Anusha Prabhu, Kalesh and Deepa among others. It talks about a young woman who seems to be coming from a fairly progressive household, until she introduces her mother to her girlfriend. What follows is a series of back of forth between the parents and the daughter, with the latter pleading for acceptance of her homosexuality. Through its empathetic portrayal and realistic performances, the film is an important addition in queer cinema.

Gentlewoman - Prime Video

Gentlewoman
Gentlewoman

Gentlewoman is directed by debutant Joshua Sethuraman and is a slow-burn thriller, featuring a humble cast of Lijomol Jose, Losliya Mariyanesan, and Hari Krishnan. The film revolves around a husband and wife, and while all seems to be going normally in their marital life with patriarchy looming over, a certain incident reveals the other side of the husband, and things get complicated with the arrival of another woman, an artist. With a subtle social commentary and no moral policing, Gentlewoman makes for an intriguing watch.
