Before Raayan release, here are five Tamil gangster films you can stream

Dhanush’s 50th film Raayan is set to premiere on Prime Video on August 23. The film, written and directed by the actor himself, is a gangster action drama which revolves around the lives of four siblings residing in the northern suburbs of Chennai.

Before Raayan begins streaming, here are five Tamil gangster films you can stream on OTTplay Premium. These films, range from being a black comedy to action dramas.

Soodhu Kavvum - ZEE5

Soodhu Kavvum is a black comedy crime film, which marks the directorial debut of Nalan Kumarasamy. The film revolves around a gangster who is planning to kidnap a politician's son for a ransom. However, it turns out that the son himself has been planning to kidnap money to extract money from his father. Actors Vijay Sethupathi, Bobby Simha, Ashok Selvan, Ramesh Thilak, Karunakaran and Sanchita Shetty appear in important characters.

Billa 2 - SunNXT

Billa 2 is an action film, which serves as the prequel to the 2007 film Billa. The film revolves around the early life of Billa from the coastal regions of Sri Lanka, who eventually becomes a deadly don with an empire of his own. The cast comprises Vidyut Jammwal, Parvathy Omanakuttan, Bruna Abdullah, Yog Japee, Rohit Khurana, Manoj K. Jayan, Sudhanshu Pandey, Dinesh Lamba, Krishna Kumar, Sricharan, Janaki Sabesh, Madhusudhan Rao and Rahman.

Pudhupettai - Aha

Pudhupettai is a 2006 Tamil crime action film which is written and directed by Selvaraghavan. The film stars Dhanush in the lead role, with Sneha and Sonia Agarwal playing the female leads. It revolves around a slum dwelling boy who rises to being a deadly gangster. Azhagam Perumal, Bala Singh, Prudhvi Raj and others. Vijay Sethupathi plays a minor role in the film.

Vikram Vedha - ZEE5

Vikram Vedha is a 2017 action thriller film helmed by the Pushkar-Gayathri duo. Taking inspiration from Vikram and Vetal folklore, the film revolves around a gangster who finally surrenders to the cops. The former presents the official with three stories which changes the perceptions on what is right and wrong. Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathi play the lead roles in the film which also features Shraddha Srinath, Kathir, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Prem, Achyuth Kumar, Hareesh Peradi and Vivek Prasanna.

Dheena – SunNXT

Dheena is an action drama marking AR Murugadoss' directorial debut. The film stars Ajith in the lead role. He plays the role of a gangster's confidante. When he learns that his brother has fallen in love with the gangster's sister, it leads to a chain of dramatic events. Dheena became the film which earned Ajith his nickname Thala.
