The Malayalam film industry has been going through an excellent phase, with the back-to-back releases of some extremely well-made films. However, the beginning of 2020s was not so good for the industry, just like the rest of the world, was hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, still some critically commercially successful films hit the theatres, amidst all the chaos. Here are the Best Malayalam films of 2020s so far, to watch on Sun NXT and OTTplay Premium.

Suresh Gopi and Shobana, the iconic onscreen pair reunited after a very long gap for this romantic comedy movie directed by Anoop Sathyan. Dulquer Salmaan and Kalyani Priyadarshan played the pivotal roles in Varane Avashyamund, which narrated the unique relationship of Neena and her daughter Nikhita, and two men named Major Unnikrishnan and Bibeesh P aka Fraud, who enter their life.

This slasher crime thriller directed by Midhun Manuel Thomas depicted the story of a criminal psychologist named Anwar Hussain, who join hands with Kochi City police to track down a serial killer, who leaves the figurine of a Lady Justice in the crime scene. Anjaam Pathiraa, which has been considered one of the finest crime thriller ever made in Malayalam, is set to get a sequel very soon.

He decides to celebrate his birthday with his friends in one of their houses, to which they agree reluctantly due to selfish reasons.

Nivin Pauly played the role of Swami Apoornanandhan, a time-travelling monk in this Abrid Shine directorial. This experimental fantasy film revolves around a strange, yet funny case filed against monk Apoornanandhan, which leads to series of hilarious incidents. Even though Mahaveeryar failed to perform well at the box office, it is indeed considered a path-breaking attempt.

This biographical drama directed by Prajesh Sen featured Jayasurya in the role of Murali, an alcoholic who becomes a headache to both his family and friends due to his addiction.
