Kannada actor-filmmaker Vijay Kumar, whose claim to fame was the Sukka Soori directed Duniya, which then gave him the moniker Duniya Vijay, turned filmmaker in 2021, with Salaga, which was successful at the box office. He then followed that up with Bheema in 2024, which became the first hit of the year. Amid his journey as a filmmaker.

Vijay has also found time to debut in Telugu cinema, playing antagonist to Nandamuri Balakrishna in Veera Simha Reddy. He has now been finalized for a role in Puri Jagannadh’s untitled next that also stars Vijay Sethupathi. Vijay is also making his Tamil film debut with Nayanthara’s Mookuthi Amman 2, while also working on his third directorial debut, City Lights, in which he is launching one of his daughters Monica, as a leading lady.

Directed by Sukka Soori, who gave Vijay his big break as a leading man in Duniya, Junglee attempted to tell a similar underworld story, but did not have the same impact. The film had mixed reviews with audiences hailing Vijay in the action and emotional sequences. Produced by Rockline Venkatesh and with music by V Harikrishna, Junglee also starred Aindrita Ray, Rangayana Raghu, Balu Nagendra, Adi Lokesh, among many others.

R Chandru got Vijay together with Hariprriiya and Manvitha Harish in what was said to be the unofficial remake of the Tamil film Veyil. The romantic action film had music by singer Naveen Sajju, while Satya Hegde was credited with the cinematography. Also on the cast were Rangayana Raghu, P Ravishankar, Achyuth Kumar, Srinivasa Murthy, Sudha, Dr Darshan Basavaraj and Sadhu Kokila.

An action crime drama directed by Shashank, Jarasandha paired Vijay with Pranitha Subhash. Vijay played a gangster passing off as a gym instructor in Bengaluru, who is trying to kill a major international crime boss to take control of his crime syndicate. Rangayana Raghu, Devaraj, Sampath, Karthik Jayaram, Roopa Devi, Danny Kuttappa, Uday K Mehta, Mallesh Gowda, among others were on the cast.

The Nagashekar directorial was in the news when two stunt men tragically lost their lives in an action sequence gone wrong under the supervision of stunt master Ravi Varma. Vijay wrote the story of the film, which also had Kriti Kharbanda and Amulya on the cast, along with Devaraj, Rangayana Raghu, B Jayashree, Srinivasa Murthy, among others.

This action thriller marked Vijay’s directorial debut and had him as the title character Salaga, in a story revolving around Bengaluru’s underworld. He was paired with Sanjana Anand in the film, while Daali Dhananjaya played a pivotal role as a police officer. Nagabhushana, Achyuth Kumar, Cockroach Suddhi, Sampath Maitreya, Yashwanth Shetty, Channakeshava and many more starred in the film.
