Directed by Siddique, the film is one of the all-time classics of Tamil cinema, with Vadivelu's contractor Nesamani one of the famous characters he has ever played. The film revolves around a group of loafers who gets employed by Nesamani to do painting jobs at a palace. Vadivelu’s character which is filled with many funny one-liners and his chemistry with Vijay and Suriya stand as highlights of the film. The character became so popular that it became an internet meme and began trending on social media sometime in 2019, with the hashtag #PrayforNesamani, referring to the scene in the film in which Vadivelu's character gets hit by hammer.

Vetri Kodi Kattu is a 2000 film by Cheran. The cast includes Murali, Parthiban, Meena, Malavika, Vadivelu, Manorama, Anandaraj, Vijayakumar, and others.
