The director has churned out some hard-hitting films like Asuran, while also giving gripping dramas like Vada Chennai. Viduthalai- Part 1 is the first instalment of the duology helmed by Vetrimaaran. The period action-drama stars Soori in his maiden lead role. He plays the role of a newly recruited cop who is entrusted with the mission to capture a revolutionary leader, essayed by Vijay Sethupathi. The film also stars Gautham Menon, Rajiv Menon, Chetan, Bhavani Sre and others. Viduthalai was screened at the Rotterdam International Film Festival and has music by Ilaiyaraaja.
