Actor Karthi, who is celebrates his birthday on May 25, has starred in a variety of films that has made us laugh, cry and entertained. Sardar is a 2022 Tamil action-thriller film directed by PS Mithran. It features Karthi in dual roles; as a disgraced spy and his son, a police officer. Sardar revolves around a multi-national company whose corrupt practices come to the fore, with the police son learning his father’s past. Th film is filled with gripping action sequences, emotional depth, and a strong social message. The cast includes Rajisha Vijayan, Raashii Khanna, Laila, Chunky Pandey and others. A sequel is in the making with Karthi, Malavika Mohanan, SJ Suryah and others.
Aayirathil Oruvan is a 2010 historical fiction adventure film directed by Selvaraghavan. Karthi’s sophomore film, it also features Reemma Sen, Andrea Jeremiah, Parthiben and others. The story follows up with a group of archaeologists and coolie team who are on a mission to locate the place where the lost Chola clan reside. The film blends history, mythology, and to tell an adventurous story of a group of people who has to get past several deadly traps before discovering the dynasty. While Aayirathil Oruvan did not do well at the time of release, it is now regarded as a cult film, with many asking updates about the sequel which was announced by Selvaragahavan.
Kaithi is a 2019 Tamil action-thriller film directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. It stars Karthi as Dilli, an ex-convict who gets to be on parole to meet his young daughter for the first time after release. But before that, he becomes entangled in a night-long mission to help a wounded police officer bust a drug raid. The film received critical acclaim and commercial success. It serves as the first part in the LCU films, followed by Kamal Haasan’s Vikram and Vijay-starrer Leo. A sequel to Kaithi has been announced.
Oopiri is a Tamil-Telugu bilingual drama directed by Vamshi Paidipally. The cast features Nagarjuna, Karthi, and Tamannaah in the lead roles. It is an adaptation of the French film The Intouchables, and focusses on the bond between a wealthy quadriplegic man and his caretaker. Exploring the themes of friendship, dignity, and bonds, Oopiri opened to positive reception.
Meiyazhagan is a Tamil drama directed by Prem Kumar, starring Karthi and Arvind Swamy. The film explores themes of self-discovery, homecoming, and familial bonds. It follows with Arulmozhi played by Arvind Swamy, who returns to his hometown after 22 years to attend a wedding. There, he is greeted by his relative, played by Karthi. As Arulmozhi struggles to remember his name, the affection poured in by the relative overwhelms the former who gets engulfed in a wave of emotions.
