Kudumbasthan, the 2025 Tamil family drama starring actor Manikandan in the lead role, is all set to make its OTT debut soon. If you have missed watching the film in theatres, it will begin streaming on ZEE5 from March 7 onwards, along with on OTTplay Premium.
Kudumbasthan was a laughter riot in the theatres at the time of its release. The film has a number of one-liners, that are not only relatable, but also rooted and realistic. This makes Kudumbasthan one of the major watches during your weekend. Not only is it hilarious, but also makes sure that the comedy is decent, healthy and not offensive to anyone.
Manikandan, who headlines the film, plays the sole breadwinner of his family consisting of his wife who is studying to become an IAS officer and his aged parents. After he loses his job, Manikandan has to manage the growing family expenditure at the same time, also not break the news of his unemployment to his family. The actor aces the role like no other, with his relatable performance, and comic timing.
Kudumbasthan does not exploit cinematic liberty. Instead, it tells an honest tale of a middle-class family and the problems they deal with, without making a huge cry about it. With its simplistic approach, and honest filmmaking, Kudumbasthan makes it perfect for all age groups to watch the film. There is an aspiring young woman, traditional parents, supportive friends, and realistic relatives, who make Kudubasthan a film which is honest and beautiful.
Director Rajeshwar Kalisamy worked on the script with actor Prasanna Balachandran, who has also appeared in the film. The film does not look like Rajeshwar’s directorial debut, who has earlier worked on skit sketches for the famous YouTube channel Nakkalites. Kudumbasthan has an engaging screenplay with no dull moments.
Kudumbasthan is set in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The film packs in lots of local flavour of the region, which is one of the USPs. From the dialogues to situations, the film does not use the backdrop for namesake, but capitalises on the region’s specificities to make an enjoyable film.
