Tamil cinema with child artistes playing central characters have become a rarity. Here are five Tamil films where children played the lead roles

The recently released Tamil film Maaman has Soori play the lead role, along with a child artiste, Master Prageeth Sivan. Only a few weeks back, Tourist Family had another child actor Kamalesh Jegan winning applause for his character. While it is a rarity in Tamil cinema to have child artistes having prominent characters in the story, there are still some hidden gems that you can stream right away.
Anjali is a family drama with writing and direction by Mani Ratnam. The film stars Raghuvaran, Revathi, along with Shamili in the titular role, Tarun, Shruthi and others. The film revolves around a couple with two children and move into a new apartment. However, soon, the wife gets to know that their third child, whom she thought was stillborn, is alive but suffering from a condition. Anjali has a lot of child artistes forming the main crux of the story.
Deiva Thirumagal is a courtroom drama, written and directed by AL Vijay. The film stars Vikram, Sara Arjun, Anushka Shetty, Amala Paul, Nassar, Krishna Kumar, Santhanam, M.S Bhaskar and Sachin Khedekar, among others. It is about a father who is mentally stunted and lives with his young and motherless daughter. After the daughter is taken away by the mother's family, Deiva Thirumagal explores the father's legal struggle to reunite with her.
My Dear Bhootham is a fantasy comedy film written and directed by N. Ragavan. It stars Prabhu Deva in the titular role with Ashwanth Ashokkumar, along with Remya Nambeesan, Imman Annachi and others. My Dear Bhootham is about a young boy who finds a magic lamp which summons a genie who grants him wishes.
Thanga Meenkal is a coming-of-age film, written and directed by Ram, who has penned the story along with his daughter Shri Sankara Gomathy Ram. The latter has also played the lead role along with the filmmaker. Thanga Meenkal is about a poor father who has to work hard to meet the needs of his daughter.
Kaaka Muttai is a social comedy drama by filmmaker M Manikandan. With J Vignesh and V Ramesh in the title roles, alongside Aishwarya Rajesh, Ramesh Thilak, Yogi Babu, the film is about two young boys from an underprivileged family, trying to pool in money to buy pizza after they are tempted to taste one.
