The film is produced by Sivakarthikeyan and had a fantastic run at the international festival circuit. Kottukkaali showed Soori in an antagonist shade, with the lead actors’ performances widely hailed.

Viduthalai duology

Viduthalai marked the first time Soori appeared in the leading role. Directed by Vetrimaaran, the film is made in two parts and has music by Ilaiyaraaja. The film revolves around a rookie cop who is tasked with capturing the leader of a people’s rebel movement. Actors Vijay Sethupathi, Manju Warrier, Kishore, Gautham Menon, Chetan, Rajiv Menon and others appear in the two-part film. While Vijay Sethupathi’s character is limited in the first part, Viduthalai: Part 2 has his role as the crux.

Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu 

Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu is the film which gave him his first fame as a comedian. A sports drama helmed by Suseenthiran, the film features Vishnu Vishal, Kishore, Saranya Mohan, Soori and others. The film revolves around a local kabbadi tournament and a love that blossoms during the ongoing temple festival. Soori's parotta comedy sequence earned him much recognition, with the actor being called parotta Soori for long.

Rajini Murugan 

Rajini Murugan is a 2016 commercial potboiler featuring Sivakarthikeyan, Keerthy Suresh, Soori, Rajkiran and others. The film revolves around a jobless young man who decides to sell off his grandparent's property. In the film, Soori plays a classic comedian, continuing his collaboration with Sivakarthikeyan after films like Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam and Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga.

Garudan 

Garudan is a crime action drama helmed by RS Durai Senthilkumar. Co-produced by Vetrimaaran and K Kumar under Grass Root Film Company and Lark Studios, the film features Soori, M. Sasikumar and Unni Mukundan in the leading roles, with actors Roshini Haripriyan, Sshivada, Revathi Sharma, Samuthirakani, Vadivukkarasi, and others appearing as supporting characters. Garudan revolves around two friends and their most trusted confidante, played by Soori. However, when a rift is created between the two friends, the confidante's loyalty is put to the test.
