Prithviraj Sukumaran took a deep dive into the Kerala politics with his debut directorial, Lucifer, in 2019. The action-packed film follows the chaotic events after the Chief Minister’s death, which forces his loyal aide Stephen Nedumpally to intervene and set things right. Mohanlal is simply at his best as his performance and mass dialogues add to the gravitas of the film, which was an instant hit at the box office.

This Malayalam film, helmed by Jibu Jacob, takes us to a regular colony where a middle-aged man lives with his normal family. Mohanlal plays Ulahannan, a panchayat secretary, who is quite bored of his ordinary life. This film is stripped clean of any mass moments or mega action to present a simple story of how a man learns to appreciate his wife and rekindle his love for her. Meena plays his wife Annyamma.

Priyadarshan’s epic film paints a painful portrait of the Independence struggle through the ordeal of Govardhan Menon, a doctor, who is convicted of a crime he did not commit and ends up in the dreaded prison cell in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Damodaran’s script, Santosh Sivan’s cinematography and Ilaiyaraaja’s rousing music, this film has had almost every essential element to make a cinematic masterpiece.

This time, Priyadarshan and Mohanlal joined hands for a classic comedy, which is still popular. But after suffering some hilarious setbacks, Dhavan switches their identities right back but not without consequences that benefit Shambu.
