Shivarajkumar in guru mode again: Here are 4 other must-watch inspiring teacher roles on OTT

Kannada cinema’s Century Star Shivarajkumar’s latest home production, A for Anand, is an adaptation of the Japanese bestselling novel, Totto Chan: The Little Girl At the Window. The autobiographical book by Unicef Goodwill Ambassador Tetsuko Kuroyanagi, Totto Chan is about the values of the unconventional education that she received at a Tokyo elementary school founded by educator Sosaku Kobayashi. To be directed by Ghost maker MG Srinivas, A for Anand, aims to tell society about the perils of modern-day education.

This is only the second time that Shivarajkumar will be seen in the role of a teacher, although he has been a sports coach too. Over the years, there have been a few memorable performances highlighting inspirational teacher-student relationships.

This is where Shivarajkumar’s character, Guru steps in to help his students succeed with unique teaching methods.

Manikyakkallu

Lucifer director Prithviraj Sukumaran played a young teacher a village school, who tries to make a definite change in students' attitudes. The movie is loosely based on the life story of the students and teachers of the Government Brennen Higher Secondary School, Thalassery. The film also stars Samvrutha Sunil, Nedumudi Venu, Jagathy Sreekumar, Salim Kumar, Sai Kumar, Indrans and many others.

Vaagai Sooda Vaa

Language: Tamil

Director A Sarkunam’s period drama set in the 1960s was adjudged the Best Feature Film in Tamil at the 2012 National film Awards. The film had Vimal in the lead as a youngster looking at getting into a government job, who takes up a temporary teaching post with an NGO in a small village. However, upon reaching there, he realizes that the entire village, including young children, are bonded labourers at a rich man’s brick factory. How Vimal’s character tries to bring about a change forms the crux of the movie.

Onamalu

Language: Telugu

Vasundara Nilayam fame Dr Rajendra Prasad headlined the film by director Kranthi Mahadev, as a former school teacher who had to leave behind his life in India to settle in the US with his son and family, only to return one fine day in the hope of doing good back home. The film also stars Kalyani, Chalapati Rao, Giri Babu, Chandra Mohan, Raghu Babu, Praveen, Ravi Prakash and many more. The film featured music by Koti.
