Kamal Haasan, the multi-faceted artiste, who has done it all, is awaiting the release of his film Thug Life. Directed by Mani Ratnam, the film is set to release on June 5 in theatres. Touted to be a gangster action drama, the film also stars Simbu, Trisha and others. This is one of the many times Kamal Haasan has starred in action films. While one grows up to be a disciplined commando, and other suffers schizophrenia due to an abusive stepmother and is confined to an asylum. Though initially a box-office failure, Aalavandhan later gained cult status, earning the National Film Award for Best Special Effects.
Virumaandi is a 2004 film directed by Kamal Haasan, and is an action drama. The film intricately explores the morality and justice behind the death sentence. Virumandi follows two jail inmates, played by Pasupathy and Kamal Haasan, who are serving a life sentence and capital punishment, respectively. The story is set against the backdrop of a violent clan feud in rural Tamil Nadu. Ilaiyaraaja has scored the music, with the cast including Rohini, Abhirami and others.
Thoongaa Vanam is a 2015 Tamil action thriller directed by Rajesh M Selva, featuring Kamal Haasan in the lead role. The actor plays the role of an undercover narcotics officer and his attempt to save his son, who has been abducted by a drug kingpin.
