Akhil Akkineni, the younger son of Telugu star Nagarjuna, and half brother of actor Nagachaitanya, has been a leading man in Telugu cinema since 2015. In the decade that’s gone by, he’s done 5 films, but not had the greatest luck at the box office. In fact, his last release, Agent, which dropped on Sony LIV on March 13, 2025, was such a debacle that Akhil has not been seen onscreen for nearly two years. The actor is reportedly working on a couple of new projects, which do not follow the standard commercial film template.
There was massive hype surrounding Akhil’s debut as a leading man, in a self-titled action fantasy film directed by V V Vinayak, but it failed to live up to the expectations. Despite music by Mani Sharma, Anup Rubens and S Thaman, the story by Veligonda Srinivas did not enthuse audiences. Akhil was paired with Sayyeshaa, for whom the film was her debut vehicle as well.

In his sophomore film, Akhil was paired with debutante Kalyani Priyadarshan. The romantic action film by Vikram Kumar was a home production for the actor, but did not do very well at the box office, with reports suggesting that it just about broke even.

Akhil’s third film was also a commercial failure, even though his performance, as well as that of heroine Nidhhi Agerwal received praise. Director Venky Atluri’s romantic action film had music by S Thaman.

Written and directed by Bhaskar, Most Eligible Bachelor is Akhil’s only commercial success to date. He was paired with Pooja Hegde in this romantic comedy that had music by Gopi Sundar. The film’s release saw multiple delays owing to the pandemic, but when it eventually came to theatres, it opened to positive reviews and footfalls.
