Live on OTT: Mamta Mohandas, Priya Varrier’s movie to release on this streaming platform

Oruthee director and scriptwriter duo VK Prakash and S Suresh Babu’s latest media thriller Live is gearing up for its OTT release. The film, which had hit theatres in May, didn’t make much noise at the box office, but the makers will be expecting a better release after it begins streaming.

The social thriller, which revolves around the impact of media on people, is a multi-starrer with Mamta Mohandas, Priya Prakash Varrier, Soubin Shahir and Shine Tom Chacko in the lead roles.

The film has Mamta essaying the role of doctor Amala, who has been facing cyber harassment and her husband, portrayed by Soubin, adopts an apathetic attitude and blames her for the troubles coming her way. But when a friend and a college student is caught in the same web, after police mistakenly arrests her, thinking she’s part of a sex and drugs racket, Amala and her friends lend support and decide to take on a media company. Things, however, have drastic consequences for the team with this effort only further worsening their plight. What change can Amala and friends bring about, form the plot of the thriller.

Live is set to begin streaming on Manorama Max and OTTplay Premium on June 29. In an earlier interview with OTTplay, the film’s director VK Prakash said, “There aren’t too many movies that have focused on the subject of social media and its influence in Malayalam, even though there’s been documentaries and docu-fiction. It’s a relevant subject because at one point or the other, everyone in the public would have gone through the incidents that the film’s protagonists endure.”

The film also marks VK Prakash’s fourth female-centric film on the trot in Malayalam after Nithya Menen’s Pranaa, Samyuktha’s Erida and Navya Nair’s Oruthee. “It’s not deliberate, it happens organically. There’s space for strong women characters in all our stories,” the director said.
