Director VK Prakash’s upcoming movie Live, which has Mamta Mohandas, Soubin Shahir, Shine Tom Chacko and Priya Prakash Varrier in the lead, promises to be a riveting take on the unethical side of media reporting.

The makers released the trailer of the film, which is currently set for a May 12 release recently, and it shows Mamta’s character being hounded by journalists. The trailer also hints at the media tactics prioritising sensationalism over reporting the true events – by the news organisation run by Shine Tom Chacko’s character.

The movie has Mamta essaying the role of a surgeon, while Shine plays a news editor. Soubin essays the role of an influential entrepreneur in the movie that also has Priya Prakash Varrier in the role of a college student. The series of incidents that happen after Mamta’s character challenges a journalist for the negative reporting form the plot of the movie.

The media thriller, which is scripted by S Suresh Babu, marks the writer-director’s back-to-back collaboration after Navya Nair Oruthee last year. The duo was initially set to team up for the sequel of Oruthee, which has been pushed to later this year.

On Live, Suresh Babu, in an earlier interview with OTTplay, said that the film is about the impact that media has when it intrudes into people’s personal lives. “How certain events transpire when the media reports on certain characters in the movie forms the plot,” said the writer, adding that it’s an out-and-out thriller.

The film, which was shot in Kochi, is also expected to be released in other languages too. The movie’s audio launch was held in Kochi earlier this week. Krishna Prabha and Rehsmi Soman are also part of the cast of the movie, which has Alphons Joseph as its composer and Nikhil S Praveen as its cinematographer.
