ZEE5 recently released a cyber thriller drama, Logout. Starring Babil Khan as a social media influencer, the film highlights the harmful effects of the online world and the dangers of digital fame. The film is currently streaming on the OTT platform, and you can also watch it with your OTTplay Premium subscription. In a new interview, Babil shared that the message of the film will remain evergreen while revealing why he chose to do the film.
Speaking to Connected to India, Babil Khan said that Logout is based upon our use of phone and how it becomes like a body part of us on social media.
"But the truth about the soul of the character of Logout is his need, his desire for external validation. How he sacrifices his self-worth and self-love for an image that is based upon the opinions of others, and he attaches his identity to that and then forgets about the difference between the two," he said.
When asked why he chose the film, Irrfan Khan's son shared that the film's message will remain evergreen because it deals with external validation, which is always a part of the system.
The OTTplay review for Logout reads, "Logout hits the right dis-connection. A chilling cautionary tale in the age of likes and lies, it asks what happens when going offline means losing your mind. Babil Khan powers through a haunting solo act, while the film dials into the dangers of digital devotion."
Logout is a cyber thriller that follows the story of Pratyush Dua (played by Babil Khan), a social media influencer. His life is turned upside down when his phone is stolen by an obsessive fan, Sakshi (played by Nimisha Nair). The fan hijacks Pratyush's digital identity and exploits his online presence, highlighting the dangers of digital fame and the potential for emotion and manipulation in the online world.
In a statement, Babil Khan said that playing a modern influencer and overcoming the complexities of virtual success was a unique challenge, especially since his character is so different from him in real life.
"I’m incredibly proud to be part of a story that feels so relevant today, shedding light on the darker side of our online lives," he added.
For the unversed, Logout was screened at prestigious events such as the 21st Indian Film Festival Stuttgart 2024, Mal Del Plata 2024, Indian Film Festival Melbourne 2024, and the River to River Florence Indian Film Festival 2024. Meanwhile, Logout is directed by Amit Golani and it also stars Rasika Dugal.
