It's elections time all across the nation… It's the time to exercise your vote to elect the leader of your choice. And Bollywood actors have always been one of the key players during election time. This time is no different. The latest update is that Bollywood actor Govinda has now officially joined the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena. Earlier in the day today (March 28), Govinda had visited Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde at his residence, which marked his second meeting with the latter within a time span of one month.

At the press conference which was held to announce Govinda joining Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena, there were many journalists who asked questions to the ‘Virar ka chokra’ regarding his re-entry in politics. As for Govinda, it is expected that he will be contesting from the Mumbai North West constituency and will be contesting against Shiv Sena UBT's Amol Kirtikar.

Govinda re-enters politics after a gap of 14 years

Speaking at the press conference, Govinda said that he was in politics from 2004 to 2009, which was the 14th Lok Sabha. He also pointed out at a coincidence that, today, he is joining politics again, after a gap of 14 years! In his conversation with the media in the presence of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Govinda also threw light on the transformation of Film City in Mumbai.

Looking back, Bollywood actor Govinda had emerged a winner after he won the elections which he had contested on a Congress ticket from the Virar constituency. At that time, he had defeated politician Ram Naik by a margin of 50,000 votes. However, Govinda went on to resign before he could complete his term in politics. And the treason for that was because he wanted to focus on his acting career.

As for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2024, the state of Maharashtra (which has 48 Lok Sabha seats) will be seen conducting it in five phases. The polls are scheduled to take place from April 19 to May 20.
