The official title announcement and first poster of Lokah Chapter One: Chandra sparked excitement among Malayalam cinephiles as the film sets the stage for a superhero universe in Malayalam. The upcoming film, starring Kalyani Priyadarshan in the lead role along with Naslen, is helmed by Dominic Arun. The young filmmaker recently spoke about his ambitious project and how the team did not start off creating Lokah Chapter One: Chandra with the tag of a female superhero film.
Director Dominic Arun, who has helmed movies such as Tovino Thomas-starrer Tharangam, is busy with the final works of Lokah Chapter One: Chandra. The 2025 Malayalam movie stars Kalyani Priyadarshan. In a recent interview with The Cue Studio, Dominic spoke about creating the first woman superhero film in Malayalam. "Plot and characters were formed organically. We never had the thought to create the first female superhero tag," he said.
While stating that he hoped the viewers would be able to connect with Lokah, he said that the film has an element of creating a fictional world. "But at the same time, we are narrating the story by staying closely aligned to the current reality."
The first-look poster revealed earlier showed Kalyani in a warrior-like attire, with Naslen.
Another notable feature of Lokah is that it is backed by Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Productions. Reports have said that DQ is likely to be seen in a cameo role in the upcoming film, which is slated to hit theatres for Onam 2025. Lokah is penned by actress Santhy Balachandran, who also acted in Dominic's Tharangam. Chandu Salim Kumar and Arun Kurian are also part of the film. But more details about the rest of the cast of Lokah are yet to be revealed.
Meanwhile, Kalyani is also playing the female lead in Odum Kuthira Chadum Kuthira, starring Fahadh Faasil. Actor-director Althaf Salim has helmed this film, which is also set for an Onam 2025 release.
