Lokah: Kalyani film crosses Rs 300 crore, will Dulquer Salmaan announce OTT release now?

Lokah Chapter 1 Chandra, starring Kalyani Priyadarshan as a superhero, has become the first Malayalam film to cross Rs 300 crore in worldwide collections. The film, which released in theaters on August 28, 2025, continues to run in theatres with no official update on its OTT release. But now that Lokah has breached the coveted Rs 300 crore mark, will it prompt producer Dulquer Salmaan to finally announce its OTT partner and release date?

Helmed by Dominc Arun, Lokah Chapter 1 Chandra is unlike anything Malayalam cinema has seen in recent times and its phenomenal box office run is proof of the taut storyline, technical brilliance and terrific performances. As the film completes 42 days at the box office, the worldwide collections of Lokah stand at Rs 300.33 crore, as per trade tracker Sacnilk.

Also starring Naslen, the film is eagerly awaited in the digital space, with several reports claiming that Lokah would head to Netflix soon, while certain others peg JioHotstar as the streaming partner. But there is no official backing for these reports. The earlier speculated date of September 26 was proved to be wrong, with producer Dulquer Salmaan, who also made a cameo appearance in the film, categorically stating that Lokah is not heading to OTT anytime soon.

This decision of DQ, which allowed Lokah to continue its record-breaking run at the theatres, was also hailed as a smart move by netizens. Lokah, the first of a five-part franchise, notched up several records as viewers vouched for rewatching the film several times to catch hold of all the easter eggs. This has definitely added to the film’s overall collections as Lokah dethroned Mohanlal’s Empuraan to become the highest Malayalam grosser, before breaking into the Rs 300 crore club.

But now even that milestone is safe in the hands of the Kalyani Priyadarshan-starrer, the makers are expected to announce its OTT release date soon. Another reason is that Diwali season is right around the corner, which would also see big movies like Pradeep Ranganathan-Mamitha Baiju’s Tamil film Dude and Hindi actor Ayushmann Khurrana’s Thamma hitting theatres. Though their impact on the Kerala box office remains to be seen, Malayalam also has a bunch of releases in the coming days, including Senna Hegde’s Avihitham and Feminichi Fathima on October 10. Then again, these are not big films with a star cast but movies with rooted stories. Feminichi Fathima has already been screened at festivals and garnered praise. Interestingly, Feminichi Fathima is presented by Dulquer Salmaan in theatres.
