Starring Malayalam actress Kalyani Priyadarshan in the lead, Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra did the unthinkable and went on to break several records at the box office during its over 60-day run in theatres. Backed by Dulquer Salmaan, the film toppled Mohanlal’s star-studded Empuraan from the top spot of the highest-grossing Malayalam movies, and also entered the Rs 300 crore club. Lokah becomes highest-grossing Malayalam film
The 2025 film Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra has become the highest grossing Malayalam film after it surpassed the lifetime collections of Mohanlal’s film L2 Empuraan Rs 266.81 crore, as per Sacnilk. The Lucifer sequel, helmed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, is in the second spot now, followed by the 2024 blockbuster hit Manjummel Boys with Rs 241.03 crore.
But Lokah was not able to beat Empuraan's opening day record as the film had far-less hyper compared to the star-studded thriller.
Lokah is first Malayalam film to make Rs 300 crore
Lokah became the first Malayalam film to enter the Rs 300 crore club. The Lokah worldwide collections are at Rs 303.57 crore. Dominic Arun has helmed this film, which featured several star cameos, including by Dulquer Salmaan and Tovino Thomas
Lokah is the highest-grosser in Kerala
Lokah is also the highest-grossing film in Kerala. The Kalyani Priyadarshan beat another Mohanlal movie, Thudarum, to notch up the feat. Lokah overtook Thudarum, which was the previous highest Kerala grosser with Rs 118 crore.
Lokah becomes pan-Indian blockbuster
Lokah, which released in theatres on August 28, became the first Malayalam film to collect Rs 100 crore both in Kerala and in overseas markets. Trade trackers certified it as a pan-Indian blockbuster, as it earned Rs 50 crore from the rest of India collections along with the other milestones. India gross collection stands at Rs 183.67 crore and overseas collection at Rs 119.9 crore
Kalyani Priyadarshan - first Malayalam actress in Rs 200 crore club
Kalyani Priyadarshan also became the first Malayalam actress to headline a film, which entered the Rs 200 crore club. Of course, she is the only actor (male or female) in the Rs 300-crore club. All the other films in the top list are all male-led movies, making Lokah’s triumph truly special.
Also starring Naslen, the film narrates the tale of an enigmatic woman, Chandra, who gets entangled in an organ trafficking racket. But it is revealed that Chandra has superhuman abilities in the film, which reimagines a popular Kerala folklore. Snady Master, Chandu Salimkumar and Arun Kurian are also part of the film.
