Love Mocktail 2 preview: All you need to know about the sequel to Darling Krishna’s directorial debut

On Friday (February 11), actor-director-producer Darling Krishna releases his film, Love Mocktail 2 , which is the sequel to his directorial debut, Love Mocktail . Back in 2020, when the film released at the end of January, the world had begun hearing about the coronavirus, and while the film was still in theatres and doing well, everything went into shutdown. Love Mocktail, however, made it to Amazon Prime Video, soon after, and was widely appreciated.

Love Mocktail was a film that Krishna wrote because he felt that he was not getting his due as an actor in the Kannada industry. Backed by then girlfriend and now wife Milana, the duo put in their hard-earned savings into making a film, which went on to change Krishna’s fortunes and how! When filming activities began after the first wave lockdowns, the actor signed up for as many as eight different projects and began work on the script for Love Mocktail 2 as well. In fact, Krishna has said that owing to his busy schedule as an actor, shooting for Love Mocktail was often done over weekends and other holidays he got.

Flashback to Love Mocktail

Starring Darling Krishna, Milana Nagaraj, Amrutha Iyengar, Vibha Kallianpur, Rachana Inder and Abhilash Thapliyal, among others, the film was about the protagonist, Aadi’s quest was love. Aadi (Krishna) narrates his love story, from his school crush, to college love and eventual soul mate, to young Aditi, whom he had promised to drop back home in Udupi. In the film, which had fantastic music by Raghu Dixit, Milana played Nidhi, Aadi’s wife, who succumbs to cancer.

What to expect in Love Mocktail 2

Love Mocktail 2, which release s on February 11, two years after the original, has its narrative also placed two years after the events of the original. In the time since, Aadi is still grieving the loss of his soulmate Nidhi, but the trailer of the film teases that the story explores the fact that time heals and that he is ready to find love, or maybe even marriage again. But finding love and a happily-ever-after, may not be that easy for Aadi after all. Love Mocktail 2 brings back Abhilash Thapliyal, Amrutha Iyengar, Kushi Achar and Rachana Inder, and introduces Rachel David to the cast.

Change in music director

Love Mocktail was a Raghu Dixit musical and had six songs, most of which were chartbusters. While he was expected to return as composer for the sequel as well, Raghu and Darling Krishna had a falling out over money and rights to the music, with Raghu holding the same for the original film. Singer-composer Nakul Abhyankar, who has a song to his credit in Love Mocktail, stepped in to do the music for the sequel.

Love Mocktail heads to Tollywood

Following the success of Love Mocktail, the film was picked up for a Telugu remake, directed by Nagshekar. Starring Satyadev Kancharana in the lead, the film, called Gurtunda Seethakalam , also has Tamannaah, Kavya Shetty, Megha Akash and Suhasini Maniratnam on its cast. Gurtunda Seethakalam is expected to get a February 2022 theatrical release.
