It’s been over 2 years since actor-couple Darling Krishna and Milana Nagaraj announced that they would be making a third instalment in their Love Mocktail franchise. The announcement, which came shortly after the release of the second part, however, had met with a lot of criticism, especially since Krishna stated that he’d concluded his character Adi’s arc in the film. Despite the lack of encouragement from netizens, Krishna and Milana are going ahead with their plans to make Love Mocktail 3, inviting auditions for a character to be played by a girl aged between 5 and 8 years.

Netizens not gung-ho about Love Mocktail 3

This time too, Krishna and Milana were flooded with messages urging them not to stretch an already over-stretched idea. “Please do something new”, “Grinding the same ingredients and making old batter”, “Don’t spoil success with sequels; leave it as it is to remain in hearts”, were among the commonly seen comments, while several other netizens actually gave the duo casting suggestions for the role.

Interestingly, every time netizens have urged Krishna and Milana to rethink their decision of doing another film in the franchise, they blocked most of these social media users, choosing to focus only on those in support of another film.

Love Mocktail, was Krishna’s debut directorial, which he and Milana had jointly produced as well. At the time, it was meant to be Krishna’s attempt to give is career a boost, which it did. The film followed his character Adi’s romantic entanglements at three stages of his life and had a tragic ending, with him losing his soulmate, Nidhi (Milana) to cancer. The sequel then explored if time was the ultimate healer and if Adi could move on in life.

Love Mocktail 2 introduced Sihi (Rachel David) as a potential love interest, but turned out that Adi’s heart only had place for Nidhi. The film sought to address grief and mental health, but at a surface level only, with the bulk of the narrative focusing on Adi’s conversations with Nidhi. Turns out he wasn’t taking his medications and was having hallucinations of her.

The film chose to romanticise this bit and if that wasn’t bad enough, it ended with Adi adopting a little girl, even as he continued seeing and conversing with Nidhi. Love Mocktail 3 will, presumably, be about Adi’s life with the new Nidhi.
