A teary-eyed Aniissh was on social media earlier today. The actor-filmmaker’s latest, Love OTP, is in theatres and reports from critics and audiences has been encouraging, but that has not led to footfall conversion, much to his dismay. In a video that he uploaded to Instagram, Aniissh is seen battling tears, unable to comprehend why despite career-best reviews, Love OTP failed to draw crowds.

In his 14 years in cinema, this is the first time that Aniissh has received overwhelmingly positive feedback for a film, but the Day 1 box office figures do not match this. “Love OTP released yesterday. I’ve never before received the kind of blockbuster reviews as I have for this film. But when I checked the collection report of Day 1, I was hurt and began questioning myself whether I’m not worth to be in the film industry and if I should just give it all up,” he said in the video.

The actor had a request to his supporters and those who planned to watch the film at a later stage. “If you intend to watch Love OTP later, remember, it’s the weekend; this is my only chance to sustain the film in theatres. If I can’t, then this will be my last effort ever,” added Aniissh.

The film, meanwhile, had Aniish paired with Swaroopinii (Drishya-fame) and Jahnvika Kalakeri, while the supporting cast included the likes of Rajeev Kanakala, Chetan Gandharva and Natya Ranga, among others. The OTTplay review stated that while Love OTP was predictable, it was both youthful and relatable, making it a good one-time watch. The film had a Kannada and Telugu release.

During the Telugu version promotions, Aniissh is said to have spoken about Telugu being his mother tongue, which had incensed netizens back in Karnataka.
