The Hindi film industry is gearing up for yet another south remake with Loveyapa on February 7. Starring Khushi Kapoor and Junaid Khan in this version of Tamil film Love Today, the trailer of the Hindi version was released recently, making us, the audience safely assume that it will be a frame-by-frame remake, retaining all the quintessential quirks from the original.
Love Today was indeed a game changer for Tamil cinema, which until then thought films could work big time with only star presence and being commercial potboilers. As the trailer of the Hindi version of Love Today remake came out, Loveyapa, let’s take a moment to understand what really made Pradeep Ranganathan's film a must-watch entertainer.

Made on a modest budget with no extravagant locales, and a humble star cast, Love Today, starring Pradeep Ranganathan, who also directed the film, is a romantic comedy if you break it to the barebones. But what really made it a hit, was how it preferred to cater to the Gen Z audience, by making it all about social media.
Stemming out from Pradeep’s short film App(a) Lock, Love Today sets out to be unique right from where its premise starts. A boy meets a girl, they fall in love, and require the girl’s father's permission to continue their relationship. But what does the old man do when he cleverly understands the importance of social media in today’s age? He agrees to the young couple’s relationship if only they wish to be together after exchanging their phones for a day. And that’s when all hell breaks loose, and youngsters really get to know about one another.
With its quirky edit patterns, clever usage of social media’s relevance in today’s times, and of course paired up with cast performances, Love Today became a smasher hit. Sathyaraj, Ivana, Yogi Babu, Raveena Ravi and others, who performed pivotal characters, ably supported the film with their performances.
The trailer of Loveyapa appears to be following the blueprint of what Love Today has already created. While threading on the path of a success formula is a safe option, it is up to the makers and cast on how the film will adhere to the audience of the Hindi belt.
With Love Today producer Archana Kalpathi serving as creative producer for Loveyapa, and Pradeep Ranganathan onboard as one of the producers, let's wait till February 7 to know if Loveyapa will retain all the quintessential quirks of Love Today.
