"Low budget Rolex" that's how Sundeep Kishan's soaked-in-blood look is described in his latest movie Michael. A screen grab from the movie, which is streaming on Aha, is going viral on the internet. In the image, Sundeep could see seen in an unbuttoned white shirt stained with fresh blood. Sundeep's Michael can be seen standing alone opposite a group of hardcore criminals. Even though he's alone, he assumes a commanding position.
For many fans, that particular image has invoked the memory of Tamil superstar Suriya's performance in director Lokesh Kanagaraj's Vikram, starring Kamal Haasan in the lead. Suriya played a cameo role named Rolex in the movie. He appeared in the climax and left everyone in awe with his performance as a ruthless drug kingpin. Irked by the defeatism of a member of his gang, he uses a cleaver to decapitate the head of a man who made a wrong suggestion. The performance took everyone by surprise as for the first time the audience got to see Suriya in such a dark role.
Suriya has made a career playing the role of a good-natured man. Even when he played the role of a gangster in Aaru or a smuggler in Ayan, his performance never crossed into darkness. His characters always had some redeemable qualities that absolved them from all the rules of the law they broke. But, Rolex was cut from a different cloth.
Lokesh presented Suriya as an image of raw evilness who has utter disregard for human life.
Rolex is one of the main antagonists in the crime cinematic universe that Lokesh is building. A stand-alone movie on Rolex's character is said to be in the works.
In the meantime, Lokesh is busy shooting for the next instalment of his cinematic universe. The film has been titled Leo and it stars Tamil superstar Vijay in the lead.
Michael, meanwhile, was released in cinemas on February 3. The film was presented by Lokesh in Tamil. However, the film didn't make a dent at the box office. Last week, the film was made available for streaming on Aha. Written and directed by Ranjit Jeyakodi, the film also stars Vijay Sethupathi, Divyansha Kaushik, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Varun Sandesh, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, and Ayyappa P. Sharma in the supporting cast.
