Kannada filmmaker Pawan Kumar is best known for his films Lucia and U-Turn, but back in 2011, he made his directorial debut with a dark comedy called Lifeu Ishtene, featuring Diganth, Sindhu Loknath, Samyukta Hornad and Sathish Ninasam, among others.

Written by Pawan, Lifeu Ishtene, which gets its title from a song in Pancharangi – a film that he served on as writer - revolves around the adult life of a carefree youngster, played by Diganth, who falls in love easily with multiple women and observes the consequences, realizing the meaning of life and that it comes full circle eventually.

Pawan, Yogaraj Bhat and Jayanth Kaikini served as lyricists for the Mano Murthy musical, which released in September 2011 and had a decent run at the box office. The film is now coming back to theatres, says Pawan, who took to social media to announce its limited release in time for Valentine’s Day. “A limited theatrical re-release of my first film Lifeu Ishtene to help boys, girls, men, women and others deal with Valentine’s week. Feb 10, 2023 – Do watch in theatres. It’s a romantic comedy,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, Pawan recently wrapped up the shoot of his next, Dhoomam, which he is making for Hombale Films. Starring Fahadh Faasil and Aparna Balamurali in the lead, the film is primarily in Malayalam, but will be dubbed in Kannada, Telugu, Tamil and Hindi as well. This is Pawan’s reimagined version of a Kannada film he’d planned to call C10H14N2, which is the chemical formula of nicotine.

Prior to the pandemic, Pawan was set to make a film with Puneeth Rajkumar in the lead, called Dvitva for Hombale Films. He was all set to take the film on floors when his leading man passed away tragically in October 2021. The film has been put on the backburner for now, although Pawan is hopeful of making it someday as a tribute to the late Power Star.
