Lucifer to re-release in theatres before Mohanlal’s L2 Empuraan hits the big screen in March 2025

Prithviraj Sukumaran's Empuraan, starring Mohanlal, is definitely the highly anticipated Malayalam film releasing this year. Fans are eager to know how the story will unfold in Empuraan, which is the second installment in the Lucifer franchise. In the latest updates, the makers are planning to re-release the 2019 film Lucifer in theatres before L2 Empuraan makes its grand release on March 27, 2025. Here’s everything we know about the exciting update. 

Lucifer re-release on March 20, 2025

Lucifer, the blockbuster film which marked Prithviraj’s directorial debut, will release in theatres on March 20, 2025, as per various Malayalam media reports. The date is significant as the 2019 film re-releases exactly a week before Empuraan’s worldwide release. Antony Perumbavoor's Aashirvad Cinemas, which is backing the film, made the announcement on social media.

The re-release will give an opportunity for die-hard Lucifer fans to once again join Stephen Nedumpally on his journey. During the teaser release of L2 Empuraan, producer Antony Perumbavoor had talked about his desire to re-release Lucifer in theatres before the Empuraan release. 

Lucifer plot and its link to Empuraan 

Lucifer traced the events after CM PK Ramdas dies, and the political power struggle in the state. Mohanlal starred in the lead role of Stephen, an ardent supporter of PK Ramdas and his family. After he defeats those who sought to bring harm to PK Ramdas’ family and party, Stephen declares that he is in fact Khureshi-Ab'raam. 

Empuraan, which is the second installment in the Lucifer film series, is expected to unfold the story of Khureshi-Ab'raam. All the posters revealed thus far show Mohanlal dressed in black which is in stark contrast to the while attire opted by Stephen at all times. Fans would be eager to know more about how Stephen became to be known as Khureshi-Ab'raam also. 

During his character introduction video, Mohanlal had spoken about how Empuraan will reveal more about Khureshi and his world. Interestingly, he also said that to know the full story of Khureshi-Ab'raam, fans will also have to see the third part.
