Later today, the much-awaited Baaro Raaja song from Luckyman will be released. The song, from director Nagendra Prasad’s debut directorial, is special because it features two of Indian cinema’s best dancers – actor-director-choreographer Prabhudeva and the late Puneeth Rajkumar. With the film releasing in theatres on September 9, the team is only dropping a lyrical video at this point, but fans are hopeful of catching some more glimpses of the actual song.

Ahead of the film’s theatrical outing, the team spoke to the media, during which Nagendra Prasad explained that Puneeth, who is fondly known as Appu, is not just there in a cameo. “Appu sir’s character is not a cameo that just comes and goes. He appears every now and then in the film and in terms of screen time, is there for at least 45-50 minutes. His character is quite important to the story and literally takes the narrative forward,” says the filmmaker, adding that the title, Luckyman, was Puneeth’s choice. “We had three options, Bhagyavantha, Bhagavantha and Luckyman. Appu sir thought that Luckyman has a good ring to it and that’s how we zeroed in on it,” he says.

The filmmaker also confirmed that the film will have Puneeth’s voice in the final version of the film. “All of his portions were shot indoors and today technology is such that even though it was not done in sync sound, the pilot audio is good enough to be used in the film,” says Nagendra.

As for the song, Baaro Raaja, which is being released by Sudeep in the presence of the team and Prabhudeva too, the filmmaker says that it was the latter who took most interest in putting it together. “When I asked my brother about being a part of the song, he not only agreed immediately, but also worked around his dates and then took a personal interest in getting everything for the song ready. The idea was to have something like, say, the ‘Lungi Dance’ song about Rajinikanth, with Annavru (Dr Rajkumar) reference instead. In fact, two days before the shoot, the song was not ready. But everything fell into place eventually and the final song is quite magical. You’ve got to see it on the big screen,” says Nagendra.
