Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom, the Bhutanese film featured as a nominee for Best International Feature at this year’s Oscars, will be available for streaming soon. The film is gearing up to hit a popular OTT platform in the country this month.
What is Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom about?
Set in Bhutan, the film follows the story of Ugyen, a man who wishes to move abroad to Australia to pursue his passion of becoming a singer. But when he is given a teaching assignment in a remote mountain village, he decides to go there to fulfil his grandmother’s wishes. During the time he spends in the village, he learns as much as he teaches.
Who are the cast and crew behind Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom?
Sherab Dorji stars as Ugyen. The film also features Ugyen Norbu Lhendup,Kelden Lhamo Gurung and Kunzang Wangdi, among others.
The film marks the feature directorial debut of Pawo Choyning Dorji. He has also written the film’s script.
Was Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom nominated for an Oscar?
At the 94th Academy Awards this year, the film was nominated in the Best International Feature Film category, becoming one of the first films from Bhutan to be nominated for an Oscar. The film lost to Drive My Car.

Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom had its world premiere at The BFI London Film Festival in October 2019. The film will be available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video from April 15, 2022, onwards.
