Netflix just can’t stop bringing joy into our lives - the streaming service brought French thriller series Lupin to audiences in January this year. Not only did we love watching the plot unfold, but the city of Paris also added a special charm. With a 98 per cent critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, the series quickly became a fan favourite. If you’ve been following Assane Diop’s journey for revenge, you’ll be delighted to know that Netflix has released first look photos from the second season.
The first part of the French heist series follows Assane as he discovers information that his late father was falsely accused, all this while juggling his responsibilities as a dad.
Charismatically played by Omar Sy, Assane is something of a gentleman burglar - he takes inspiration from Maurice LeBlanc’s Arsène Lupin. The show allows the audience to get glimpses into Assane’s past, from the first time he was introduced to the Lupin books by his father to him pulling off a burglary in broad daylight. The five episodes of this series were just not enough for fans, who’ve desperately been waiting for updates on the next season.
Here’s everything you need to know about part 2 of Lupin.
What is the plot of part 2?
The last time we saw Assane, his son Raoul was kidnapped by Hubert Pelligrini’s henchman. The first teaser trailer reveals that Assane will try to rescue his son this season, warning Pelligrini’s henchman that he’ll kill him if his son is harmed. The fire of revenge will keep burning, with Assane trying to hunt Pelligrini’s family down. The teaser also shared Pelligrini’s reason for kidnapping Raoul - to reel Assane into danger.
The audience should definitely expect Assane to keep donning his crafty disguises to escape situations, but perhaps this season will feature him as less of a gentleman.
What do the first images reveal?
The first images, released on May 5, keep the plot well under wraps - the only giveaways are Assane looking over Paris from a clock tower and then climbing a ladder in what could be a sewer tunnel. The clock tower seems to be at the Musee d’Orsay, overlooking the river Seine and could be a potential location where Assane finds Raoul.
The photos also feature police officers Youssef Guedira (Soufiane Guerrab), Sofia Belkacem (Shirine Boutella) and Romain Laugier (Vincent Londez) in formal attire and a second shot includes Assane walking with Antione Gouy (Benjamin Ferel)
How many episodes will part 2 have?
Just like part 1, the new part of Lupin is expected to have five episodes as well. The new addition to the series has been subtitled ‘Dans L’Ombre D’Arsène (In the Shadow of Arsène). Ludovic Bernard is set to direct episodes 6 and 7, while Hugo Gélin is directing the last three episodes.
What questions will part 2 answer?
Some questions are more important that others - Will Youssef catch Assane? How will Assane rescue his son? Will Assane finally take Hubert down? And then there are some that are probably not as important as Assane’s efforts to save his family - Will Juliette and Assane get together? Is someone from the Pelligrini family going to meet their end at the hands of Assane, if not Hubert?
When will part 2 of Lupin premiere?
Five episodes of the second part of Lupin will premiere this summer, though an official confirmation is awaited from the showrunners.
