After a series of untoward incidents, including threat calls and trolling, Raima Sen's film Maa Kaali will be released shortly. The teaser was dropped recently. The film is set in the backdrop of the communal riot on August 16, 1946. The day is known as Calcutta Killing in history.

The teaser is shocking and shows how a Bengali family suffered brutally from the communal riots. The story centers around the family. Raima told the media, “If anyone feels bad after watching the film, they must understand that such things took place in real life.”

After the poster came out, Raima had many threatening phone calls. Calls came to her place's landline and obscene threats were delivered. Raima had told OTTplay, “I have been getting these calls. But I would just request people to watch the movie first and then give their opinion. The threats were in line with how she agreed to do the film, being the granddaughter of Suchitra Sen, and sometimes I was reminded that I would have to stay in Kolkata in the future.” Suchitra Sen’s birthday is on April 6. Raima said, “I’m not politically affiliated and don’t intend to get into politics. I have always been away from controversy so this kind of trolling, especially on the phone, is unacceptable to me. I live with my parents in Kolkata and don’t want to disturb their piece of mind.”

After the teaser release, Raima seemed fearless. She said, “Controversy regarding cinema is nothing new. There are obstacles in every work. But you have to move forward, overcoming your fear.”

Raima is again in a Hindi film after The Vaccine War. The film is directed by Vijay Yelakanti. Abhishek Singh will also be in the film. Anurag Halder composed the film and Acharya Venu was the DoP. The film will be released on August 16, the 78th anniversary of Calcutta Killing, in Bengali and Hindi. The makers said 'Maa Kaali will create hope for the future by highlighting the darkest chapters in history.'
