OTT platforms have turned out to be a boon for small-budget Telugu films that are big at heart and yet don't have the legs to draw eyeballs at the theatres. Another small film, Maa Oori Polimera, is skipping its theatrical release and will be landing on Disney+ Hotstar directly on December 10. Maa Oori Polimera features Satyam Rajesh, Bala Aditya, Dr. Kamakshi Bhaskarla, Getup Srinu, Ravi Varma and Chitram Srinu in pivotal roles. The film is directed by Anil Vishwanath and produced by Bhogendra Gupta. The film's trailer was launched on Disney+ Hotstar's Youtube channel today.
The story revolves around a constable, played by Bala Aditya, who is quite keen on taking up an unsolved case in a village and investigating it. The scene shifts to a poor family later, whose women are always targeted by preying men and perperators in the town. Getup Srinu and Satyam Rajesh are cast as their helpless husbands, who lack the wherewithal to counter the oppressors. The characters even resort to black magic; the trailer also discusses how superstitions are used to mislead people. The constable lands in trouble while trying to find an answer to the case. When will this menace end?
Maa Oori Polimera looks to be an interesting take on superstition and a plot-driven film aided by a host of credible performers including Satyam Rajesh, Getup Srinu, Bala Aditya, Ravi Varma. This is Bala Aditya's second project in the year after Unheard, a conversational web series that also landed on Disney+ Hotstar. Kamakshi Bhaskarla was also seen in projects like Priyuraalu, Most Eligible Bachelor earlier. All said and done, it's a smart decision for the makers to release the film on OTT - the content is certain to get its due and grab more attention than a theatrical release.
