Earlier, it was reported that Kajol is all set to star in her first horror feature, Maa. The official announcement of the film includes the first-look poster and the big screen release date. Maa is a mythical horror film produced by Jio Studios and Devgn Films, the same folks behind the smash hit Shaitaan. Fans can gear up for Kajol's menacing transformation in this highly anticipated film.

Tale of Good vs. Evil in Maa

With visceral suspense and dramatic intensity, Maa delves into the age-old conflict between good and evil under the direction of Vishal Furia and the screenplay of Saiwyn Quadras. In addition to Kajol, Ronit Roy, Indraneil Sengupta, and Kherin Sharma also have significant roles in the film.

Maa was co-produced by Kumar Mangat Pathak and Ajay Devgn and Jyoti Deshpande and is presented by Jio Studios and Devgn Films. The film will be released in theatres in four languages: Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Bengali on June 27, 2025.

Vishal Furia reflects on completing Maa

Back in 2024, Furia wrote a long note on wrapping up Maa while sharing a snap with Kajol. The filmmaker stated that he has completed his most ambitious endeavours up to this point. The chilling thriller Maa, produced by Ajay Devgn of Devgn Films and featuring Kajol.

Occasionally, a project is bestowed upon one by fate and a project like Maa was a blessing from on high. The filmmaker will be eternally grateful to Luv Ranjan, who connected him with Devgn Films and introduced him to the industry.

Ajay Devgn's expertise in genre filmmaking

Furia can't stress how incredible it has been to work on the Maa script and worldbuilding with Devgn. It was astounding and inspiring that a superstar of his calibre could demonstrate such mastery over genre handling. His experience as a producer gives him the confidence to pursue filmmaking opportunities outside of Bollywood.

Quadras, his great friend, fulfilled his latest ambition for collaboration by writing a wonderful script. His unwavering faith in his stories and remarkable willingness to work together with the filmmaker have made him a hit screenwriter.

Kajol's dedication to the horror genre

The largest and last thank you from Furia goes to Kajol. Even after 30 years in the spotlight, the actor appears oblivious to her extraordinary abilities, a testament to her humility and modesty. Bringing a "superstar of romance" into the horror field was an enormous undertaking, and Furia was terrified of failing miserably. However, he had no trouble with the task at hand from the start because of how effortlessly Kajol switched genres. She convincingly conveys a range of emotions through her eyes, including terror, shock, dread, and terror. The responsibility of guiding those expressive eyes—eyes that normally communicate volumes—this time around was a source of immense horror for him. As a young, ambitious filmmaker, Furia is incredibly grateful to Kajol for being patient and kind with him and for easing his creative path day in and day out on a set that required her to give her blood, sweat, and tears, but which she gladly did.
