Maadeva actor Vinnod Prabhakar: In my earlier films, on a script level itself there was no scope to perform

Vinnod Prabhakar, the son of late actor Tiger Prabhakar, is gearing up for the release of his next, Maadeva, a film that’s been ready for a while and is hitting theatres at a time when the Kannada film industry has been going through one of its worst slumps. Naturally, the actor is nervous about the film’s prospects at the box office, even more so, because this time around, he’s got a story and role that has allowed him to explore the artiste in him and he's not sure about getting an audience for it.

Varadha actor Vinnod’s image in the industry is that he’s an actor who can fight well and his films have largely focused on that aspect, with the story and his performance often on the backburner. “My films have a decent market for Hindi dubbing rights, provided there are 4-5 fight sequences in it and some sonsgs. So, on a script level itself, there was rarely ever scope for me to perform. There was a certain template for my films,” said the actor in conversation with Filmibeat Kannada.

Maadeva, he says, is a break from this image and has allowed Vinnod to really dig deep and show his skills as an actor. Vinnod, who was last seen in Fighter , still can’t wrap his head around why director Naveen Reddy thought he would be a good fit for the character. Vinnod plays a hangman in the film, which revolves around the emotional life of the character, including his family, society, etc.

“Yes, there are fights in Maadeva too, but it also gives me a massive platform to prove myself as an actor. Over the years, there’ve been several instances where I wanted to showcase myself as an artiste, but I was always told it was not necessary. So, when this film came to me, I jumped at it,” adds the actor, who is paired with his Roberrt co-star Sonal Monteiro (Banaras ) in Maadeva.
