Maadeva, a film that its leading man Vinod Prabhakar pinned a lot of hope on, had released in theatres in early June, back when Kannada audiences were still shunning movie halls. Despite this, the film by Naveen Reddy is said to have managed to break even after a 50-day theatrical stint. Subsequently, the film was rumored to be OTT bound in early August, but that deal did not pan out. It took the team another month to finally have Maadeva on an OTT. As of September 19, Maadeva is available to audiences on Cinebazzar OTT.
However, there is a catch. The makers of Maadeva are, apparently, still in negotiations with other platforms too, and while that is in progress, on Cinebazzar the film is available on rent only for a payment of Rs 49. This arrangement will be in place until September 25 and from September 26, it will be available to stream for free by subscribers.
The plot of Maadeva
Vinod played the title character Maadeva, an emotionally numb hangman at a prison in this tale set in the 90s. He’s the kind who will pull the lever and end someone’s life and then have his next meal right next to the body, unaffected by everything around him. This changes once Parvathi (Sonal Monteiro) makes it her life mission to get Maadeva to smuggle in home-cooked food into the prison for her mother, who is serving a sentence.

The film also stars Srinagara Kitty, Achyuth Kumar, Cockroach Suddhi, Shruthi Krishna, Bala Rajwadi, Malashri, among others. Music is by Pradyottan, while cinematography is by Balakrishna Thota.
