Sudheer Babu hasn’t had a great 2023 to date. Both his films - Hunt and Maama Mascheendra - turned out to be critical and commercial failures and couldn’t enjoy a good run at the cinemas. He’d be hoping to change the trajectory of his career for the better with two exciting projects - the father-son drama Maa Nanna Superhero and the action thriller Harom Hara.

Meanwhile, the star’s Maama Mascheendra, that released in theatres on October 6, arrived on OTT within two weeks on multiple streaming platforms - aha and Amazon Prime Video. Eesha Rebba, Mirnalini Ravi played the female leads in the film where Sudheer Babu was seen in a triple role (as an elderly uncle and his twin-nephews). The film has garnered good viewership on aha within a week.

After its digital premiere on October 20 till yesterday - i.e. October 27, Friday, Maama Mascheendra amassed an impressive 50 million streaming minutes. The best part of OTT viewing is how the viewer only pays heed to the film, the plot and not its commercial outcome. The individualistic viewing gives them enough time to digest a film beyond other parameters.

Maama Maschendra starts with Parasuram murdering his father and stepmother, blaming them for his mother’s death. Parasuram, after realising that his uncle is in charge of his mother’s property, marries a woman who’s a daughter-like figure in his life. Parasuram later attempts to destroy the life of his uncle’s son Prasad. However, his plans don’t materialise. What’s in store for Parasuram?
