Venkat Prabhu, who is known more as a director than a character actor, for helming films such as Chennai 600028, Saroja and Goa, to name some, has come up with the political action thriller Maanaadu. The film features Silambarasan in the lead along with SJ Suyash, Kalyani Priyadarshan, SA Chandrasekhar, SJ Suryah, Y Gee Mahendran, Bagai Chandrashkehar, Premgi Amaren, Karunakaran in key roles. Produced by V House Productions and producer-turned-director Suresh Kamatchi, the most-awaited Tamil film of the year dropped its trailer today.
STR plays Abdul Khaaliq, while SJ Suryah will play a cop in the film. SA Chandrasekhar plays the antagonist in the film. Stunt Shilpa has done the action while Umesh J Kumar has done the art. Richard M Nathan has done the cinematography. This is the 100th film of Praveen KL, who has edited the rushes.
The trailer begins with ‘Your time starts again,’ hinting squarely that the thriller toys with the concept of time loop, placing the groundhog day genre within a political template, which is a refreshing blend of genres on the whole. Scenes from a celebratory song swiftly shift into booms and bursts and the riveting political premise. “He came, shot, left, repeat,” says a person, following the scene where the chief minister gets a bullet fired at his temple. Pace, action, and thrill coats the trailer where Simbu is stuck in the one fateful day where the chief minister is fated to die. What follows in snatches in the trailer is a nefarious plot to eliminate the chief minister at the MMK chief conference. The trailer hints at a riveting and full-on entertaining film.
Well-known artists AR Murugadoss, Nivin Pauly, Nani, and Rakshit Shetty dropped the film's trailer in Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada, respectively to reach a wider audience. The film is named Maanaadu in Tamil and Malayalam, and titled The Loop in Telugu and Kannada.
The political action thriller is set for a Diwali release, on November 4. It is geared up to clash with Rajinikanth's Annaatthe.
