Maareesan, the Tamil film which released in theatres this week, starring actors Vadivelu and Fahadh Faasil in the lead roles, has collected Rs 0.75 crore. The film is a blend of road trip and crime thriller, directed by Sudheesh Sankar.

After the success of Maamannan, actors Fahadh Faasil and Vadievlu teamed up once more for Tamil film Maareesan. The film released in theatres on July 25. As per Sacnilk report, the first day collection of the film stands at 0.75 crore. The film, which opened to mixed to positive reviews, is expected to get a good hold over the weekend. The presence of two powerhouses of talents is also expected for more people to turn up to watch the film.

Maareesan is directed by Sudheesh Sankar with script and screenplay penned by Krishna Moorthy. It revolves around a petty thief who travels with an Alzheimer’s patient, in order to loot his money. But the latter has got plans of his own. The film is a blend of road trip genre and crime thriller. Maareesan marks the second time the lead actors are collaborating. While Maareesan got good reviews for the star cast performance, some felt the genre shift as a problem.

Where to watch Maareesan on OTT?

The post-theatrical streaming rights of Maareesan have been bagged by Netflix. While an OTT date is not yet announced, the film will be tentatively made available sometime in August last week. Maareesan is produced by Super Good Films. Kovai Sarala, Vivek Prasanna, Sithara, PL Thenappan, Livingston, Renuka, Saravana Subbiah, Krishna, Haritha, and Telephone Raja, are also part of the film. With Kalaiselvan Sivaji cranking the camera, Sreejith Sarang is the editor.

Fahadh Faasil had earlier said that Maareesan cannot be made in Malayalam because it is more practical to do it Tamil, owing to its road trip genre. With the film spanning across a few days and different locations, the actor said that the cast and terrain is very important to the story.
