Maarigallu, the first Kannada web series from the late Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar’s banner, has a release date. The show, directed by Devaj Poojary, of Matsyagandha fame, is the third Kannada original made for Zee Network, after Ayyana Mane and Shodha, which came out earlier this year. The 6-episode suspense thriller will be available on Zee5 and on OTTplay Premium from October 31.

A long lost empire and a hidden treasure at stake
A little while ago, a first teaser of the show was revealed, which features a voice over by Daali Dhananjaya, as he narrates the tale of the Kadamba dynasty and its first ruler, Mayuravarma and his descendants, a glorious and prosperous time in the history of Karnataka.
As the years went by and the empire faded, did its wealth also disappear, or, could a treasure be hidden away after all? The teaser hints at a hunt for a hidden treasure, with the likes of Praveen Tej, Prashant Siddi, Gopalkrishna Deshpande, Rangayana Raghu, Ninad Harithsa, among others, on the cast. Devraj has writing credits as well, while cinematography is by SK Rao and music by LV Muthu Ganesh.

According to an official note, the show is set in the 90s and promises a gripping story of greed, betrayal, faith and destiny, amid a hunt for the hidden treasure that is said to be protected by the local deity, Maari. For fans of the late Power Star, the teaser that came out today will be a pleasant surprise, as it features an AI animated version of Puneeth as Mayuravarma, a role made famous by his late father, the matinee idol Dr Rajkumar.
