Director Suku Purvaj, who made a mark as a storyteller with the riveting thriller Shukra, headlined by Arvind Krishna, surprised many by choosing a horror thriller for his follow-up film Maataraani Mounamidhi. He chose two rank newcomers, Mahesh Datta and Soni Srivastava to play the leads in the film that had a brief theatrical run in 2022. Now, the film is gearing up for an OTT release.
Noted OTT platform aha has acquired the streaming rights of Maataraani Mounamidhi. Earlier this week, the streamer formally announced the premiere date of the film. The thriller will be landing on aha this weekend on February 24. Srihari Udayagiri, Sanjai Raai, Chandu, Archana Ananth, Suman Shetty, Kasiraju, Pramodh, Keshav play other key roles in the film.
Vasudev Rajapantula and Prabhakar D bankrolled the film under Rudra Pictures while Asheer Luke composed the music for the same. The story largely revolves around two brothers-in-law and a series of eerie events in a haunted house. While the brother, who mourns the death of his sister, stays with his brother-in-law, the former soon falls in love with a mute girl. There’s a twist in the tale soon.
While the film has been labelled a thriller, the director Suku Purvaj called it a genre-bender with the right commercial ingredients. Dhampudu Lakshmi, a dance number from the film, went viral upon its launch. Maataraani Mounamidhi is coming to the digital space many months after its release and hopes to grab the eyeballs of audiences across the globe with aha’s reach.
Maataraani Mounamidhi’s director has already moved onto his third film, a superhero tale titled A Masterpiece, featuring Arvind Krishna, Bigg Boss Telugu fame Ashu Reddy, Sneha Gupta, Archana Ananth in key roles. Srikanth Kandragula is producing the film under Cinema Bandi Productions.
