Maaveeran OTT release date confirmed: When, where to watch Sivakarthikeyan's superhero movie

Amazon Prime Video on Monday announced the digital premiere date of Tamil star Sivakarthikeyan's latest action movie Maaveeran . The superhero movie will become available for streaming on August 11, less than a month after its theatrical release. 

Maaveeran opened in cinemas on July 17 to positive reviews. Written and directed by Madonne Ashwin of Mandela fame, the movie is a very unique take on the superhero genre. The movie was also received well by the audience at the box office, giving Sivakarthikeyan a much-needed commercial success after the Prince debacle.

Maaveeran tells the story of a comic artist Sathya, played by Sivakarthikeyan, a self-proclaimed coward. He never tries to raise his voice against any injustice for fear of rubbing the bad guys the wrong way. He even dodges the guys who harassed his mother and sister. And he vents out all his frustration against the injustices in society through the comic strips he draws for a local newspaper. Following a botched-up suicide attempt, Sathya gains some special powers, which allows him to know future events, just moments before they actually happen. And Sathya, despite his best efforts to avoid fighting the right fight, is forced to take on the corrupt politician to save the lives of hundreds of innocents. 

“Maaveeran is a perfect blend of fantasy, humour, drama and satire, which makes it a thoroughly enjoyable family watch. Ashwin built this truly engrossing real-world and masterfully weaved in an element of fantasy, that made it so enjoyable not only for the audience but also, all of us working in it," said Sivakarthikeyan. 

Madonne Ashwin noted that Maaveeran was the result of countless hours of research, preparations and hard work. "With a riveting core idea, the film explores the internal conflict our protagonist, Sathya experiences, even if it causes inconvenience to himself or his family. And his transformation after certain incidents is a revolutionary journey of self-discovery, courage, an eventual realization that there’s a hero in each one of us, who has the capacity to help and do right by people," he said. 

Maaveeran also stars Aditi Shankar, Saritha, Mysskin, Yogi Babu and Sunil play supporting roles.
