Madhur Bhandarkar on Bollywood's current slump: This is a phase in every industry

A good movie will always draw crowds to theatres, according to Madhur Bhandarkar, who also feels that the Hindi film industry's current slump is only a temporary phase. The 54-year-old director, whose credits include Chandni Bar, Page 3, Fashion, Jail, and Heroine, expressed optimism that the movie business will soon recover.

The filmmaker said that he has been watching this industry intently for a very long time. In the past, there was a lot of piracy, and it was rumoured that theatres would close because people were watching movies on video cassettes. Similar predictions of the industry's demise were made when cable and OTT were introduced. Some movies nowadays haven't been successful. However, there have been successful movies at the box office in the last six to eight months. An excellent movie succeeds, and the industry goes through a phase.

The 54-year-old director was speaking at the premiere of the Babli Bouncer movie's trailer, which will feature Tamannaah Bhatia in the lead role.

Bhandarkar claimed that choosing to make Babli Bouncer a light-hearted comedy was a deliberate choice. Although the film may have been taken seriously, they wanted to make it fun. They haven't inflated it or made it bigger than life. He added that the films by Manmohan Desai, Hrishikesh Mukherjee, and Basu are well combined.

On September 23, the movie, which will be available on Disney+ Hotstar, will debut. Bhatia plays a bodybuilder who accepts a position as a bouncer at a Delhi nightclub. The movie, according to Bhandarkar, is perfect for OTT platform distribution.

The filmmaker said that this movie, in his opinion, is ideal for OTT. It was shared by the producers as well. Today, OTT has a vast viewership. Whether they are in a theatre or watching OTT, they want to see fantastic movies as the lines have become hazy.
